Your Hair Is Stressed Out! These 3 Mistakes Can Cause Summer Damaged Hair.

Too much fun in the sun can lead to summer damaged hair, especially if you’re making these three common mistakes. But don’t worry—I’ve got the tips and tricks to help keep your hair healthy this summer!

Mistake #1: You don’t protect against UV rays.

No, your hair can’t get sunburned like your skin. However, if you’re in the sun for more than a couple of hours, UV rays can seriously damage your hair! UVA and UVB rays damage the outside layer of the hair (which is called the cuticle) and this can lead to frizzy, dry hair that’s riddled with split ends. The sun can even make your color fade, leaving you with dull and lifeless hair.

That’s why UV protection is a must! We suggest treating your hair with our our REPAIR + PROTECT 3-STEP SYSTEM prior to your time in the sun. Helping to shield your hair from heat and UV rays as well as protect against future damage.

Mistake #2: You brush your hair from roots to ends.

I can remember dreading the times when Mom would brush my hair as little kid, because it felt like she was trying to yank all of my hair out instead of detangle it. Turns out, she was brushing my hair all wrong. The trick is to start brushing at your ends and work your way up to your roots. That way, you work through the tangles little bits at a time—instead of damaging delicate wet strands. So, remember to brush from the bottom up and use a dressing brush with two different lengths of bristles to minimize breakage this summer!

Mistake #3: You wear your hair in the same pony every time.

Wearing your pony in the same spot every time you put your hair up can cause your hair to break from all the tension. So, mix it up! If you wear your hair in a ponytail today, try braiding your hair or throwing it up in a messy bun next time you wear it up. Plus, using silk scrunchies—instead of elastic hair ties—can help prevent damaging strands (which will help you avoid those unruly fly-a-ways!)
